Discipline at Le Conte Middle SchoolLe Conte is one of the safest and most secured schools in the district. We pride ourselves for having reduced the amount of dean referrals, detentions and suspensions significantly last year. We were able to accomplish this because of stronger ties between the school and the home, and because our school discipline was taught and discussed extensively in the classroom and at home. Our goal this year is to continue reducing the amount of referrals, detentions and suspensions, while providing our students with an environment that is safe and conducive to learning and solidarity. Please discuss Le Conte’s Discipline Policy with your child. We all have to make sure we allow plenty of time for discussion about appropiate behavior. The following questions can serve as leading questions for discussing discipline now and at any time it is necessary and for promoting self-control: • Safety: Are my actions safe for myself and for others? • Respect: Do my actions show respect for myself and for others? • Honesty: Do my words and actions represent truth? • Responsibility: Do my actions meet the expectation to take care of myself and be a dependable member of the community? • Courtesy: Do my actions help make this a nice place, where people feel welcome and accepted, and where they can do their work without disruptions?* *FROM RESEARCH CONNECTIONS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION, FALL 1997.
