When completing math assignments, students should use this four-step
plan:
EXPLORE: The plan begins with understanding the problem. You need to know what information you have, what information you need. And what is asked.
PLAN: After understanding the problem. you should develop a plan to solve it. There are many ideas or strategies you can use. You will learn many of these in you math book. It is usually helpful to make an estimate.
SOLVE: Then you carry out your plan. If the plan does not work, try another and another.
EXAMINE: Finally, you should look at your answer to see whether it answers the question you were asked. You may also check your answer by solving the problem in another way by using a different strategy. Compare your answer to the estimate. If the answer doesn't make sense, make a new plan and try again.
