Technology
Le Conte Middle School uses technology effectively to support and guide day to day instruction and operations. Technology spending in the last 3 years has increased tremendously: over $1 million of Le Conte’s funds only have been used for the purchasing of servers, computers, peripherals, a state-of-the-art computer lab, multimedia projectors, software, a new Parents-School communication system, a new website and support personnel. In addition, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has funded millions of dollars in computers, peripherals, network expansion, telephones, public announcement system, security, and support personnel in the last 3 years. This is reflected in the following accomplishments:
- Le Conte has 3 Computer Labs:
- A newly networked and equipped Computer Literacy Lab (RM 215) with 35 computers, 2 lacer printers, and a full time teacher;
- An Applied Mathematics and Science Academy Lab (RM 42) with technology, science and mathematics modules and a full time teacher; and
- A state-of-the-art drop-in Computer Lab (RM 44) equipped with 35 computers with Internet access, two lacer printers, a server, a multimedia projector and an Active Board. A full time technician attends the drop-in lab all day.
- Every classroom at Le Conte has at least one working computer with Internet access.
- Every classroom at Le Conte has a telephone, a TV and a VCR. In addition, several classrooms are also equipped with multimedia projectors, radios and printers. Some have active boards and laptop carts.
- Le Conte hosts the powerful Renaissance Place system in one of its servers, and implements a successful Accelerated and Star Reader program, which is administered by Le Conte’s librarian.
- Le Conte’s library is equipped with 24 computers with Internet access for research and student work.
- Le Conte teachers and staff use E-mail, the Internet, and TeleParent to communicate to parents and among themselves in a daily basis.
- Le Conte teachers and staff use a powerful web-based Integrated Secondary Information System (ISIS) to take attendance, record grades, and retrieve and generate data in a daily basis.
- Le Conte has an effective Technology Committee composed of enthusiastic and hardworking teachers, staff and administrators.
- Le Conte has an effective Tech Team composed of two full-time technicians and a part-time Technology Coordinator.
- Le Conte students have the Computer Lab and the Library available for computer literacy instruction, research and homework after school.
